By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Championship will reach its definitive conclusion on Saturday as Verdes host San Pedro Pirates in the second and final leg at 7:30 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
With a 2-0 advantage from the first leg at Ambergris Stadium, Verdes are on the brink of clinching their fifth PLB national title. Playing at home, they will look to complete their championship mission in front of their home fans.
Pirates have one last chance
For San Pedro Pirates, the path to the title is difficult but not impossible. To force a decisive third match, they must win by at least two goals—a task that requires an all-out attacking approach. They previously held Verdes to a 2-2 draw in San Pedro on March 1 and narrowly lost 2-1 in Benque Viejo on January 25, proving they can challenge the champions.
Key players Moises Martinez, Keydenshaay Bowen, and Jaheim Mena must rise to the occasion for the Pirates, while Jordy Polanco, Krisean Lopez, and Desmond Wade will look to control the match and steer Verdes to victory.
Verdes ready to celebrate
With home-field advantage and a strong defensive foundation led by goalkeeper Woodrow West, Verdes will aim to shut down the Pirates and lift the trophy at the final whistle.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m., and after months of fierce competition, this match will determine the undisputed champion of the 2025 PLB Closing Season. Will Verdes complete their title run, or can the Pirates pull off a dramatic comeback?
Verdes reported at 1:00 pm that tickets for the final were selling fast, with gate tickets priced at $25 and children under 13 admitted for $5. Pre-sold tickets, which were priced at $20, are now sold out, signaling the high anticipation for this decisive matchup. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot for what promises to be an electrifying night in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
