By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After weeks of uncertainty, the Premier League of Belize (PLB) have confirmed that the suspended Week 10 match between Wagiya SC and Belmopan FC will finally be played on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga.

The match, originally scheduled for Sunday, October 12, was not played after Belmopan FC refused to take the field, after disagreeing with the date change requested by Wagiya for Saturday, November 11. The PLB Organizing Committee had approved Wagiya’s request to move the game from Sunday to Saturday to avoid conflict with the Belize Men’s National Team’s planned international friendly against Venezuela. That friendly was later cancelled due to security concerns in Chicago.

Despite the PLB’s ruling, Belmopan FC did not show up, prompting the league to refer the matter to its Disciplinary Committee. Wagiya, having already arranged matchday logistics and security, had expected to be awarded the three points. In a social media post dated October 31, 2025, the club expressed frustration with the delay and the perceived double standard:

“If the tables were turned n Wagiya didn’t show up for a Scheduled Game, de mia done Fine us n give the 3 points to the other Team. But it is what it is,” Wagiya Sporting Cub said in the post.

“Last Home Game for us on Wednesday, Nov 5th, 2025 at 4pm. Another thing is the Lights. How long de know the Lights dah Carl Ramos noh di cut it. The Mayor, The Area Rep, and the Sports Council knows about it n nothing is being done about it. Wagiyameme!!!! 1-2-3 Gone”

The rescheduled fixture now carries major playoff implications. Belmopan FC sit fourth with 14 points and a game in hand, while Wagiya trail by just three points with two matches remaining. A win for either side could dramatically shift the standings heading into the final weekend of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship.

The playoff race remains tight, with Verdes FC, Port Layola, and Progresso already qualified. Napoles FC, currently fifth with 13 points, are also in contention but have only one match left to play.

All eyes now turn to Dangriga on Wednesday afternoon, where the outcome could determine who claims the final playoff spot.
