By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In a dramatic turn of events during Week 5 of the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship, last-place club Belmopan FC stunned league leaders Verdes with a 3-1 victory at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, February 15.
Verdes took an early lead with a goal by Brandon Jones in the 20th minute. However, Belmopan equalized just before halftime, with Fredy Bazalar scoring in stoppage time (45+2 minutes).
The second half saw Belmopan record their first win of the championship, with Flavio Mayora netting the second goal in the 84th minute, followed by Diego Bartolota sealing the win with a third goal in the 90th minute.
Verdes, known for their strong performance this season, were left reeling from this unexpected defeat. Belmopan’s impressive victory showcased their resilience and determination, proving that anything can happen in football.
