By Rubén Morales Iglesias The Premier League of Belize (PLB) semifinal second leg between Port Layola FC (#2) and Progresso FC (#3) kicks off Thursday night at 7:30 pm at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.

Postponed matches are normally rescheduled for midweek ahead of the next set of fixtures, and this one was no exception after heavy rains forced Sunday’s game to be called off. The PLB even considered moving the match to Belmopan since the lights at Marion Jones did not meet standards, being dim in one area.

To avoid losing their homefield advantage, Port Layola ensured the lights — which fall under the responsibility of the National Sports Council of Belize — were repaired. By Tuesday night, the matter was resolved, and the FFB Match Commissioner approved the stadium for play, allowing Port to host their first night game of the season at Marion Jones.

Progresso FC arrive with a 2–1 aggregate lead after their upset win in Orange Walk. Latrell Middleton (37’) and Rene Leslie (80’ pen) scored for Progresso, while Gilroy “Leng” Thurton (52’) netted Port Layola’s lone goal.

Tonight’s clash will decide who advances to the PLB Final. The winner will host defending champions Verdes FC in the first leg of the championship this weekend, more than likely on Sunday, December 7.
