By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In Week 7 of the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship, San Pedro Pirates managed agonizing come-from-behind 2-2 draw against Verdes at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro.
Krisean Lopez of Verdes opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and Bryan Lozano added another in the 63rd minute.
However, the Pirates fought back with Brayan Vargas finding the net in the 79th minute and Jaheim Mena scoring the last-gasp equalizer five minutes I to injury time (90’+5).
Although San Pedro’s performance improved from their 2-1 loss to Verdes in Cayo, this draw only earned them a single point, which doesn’t do much to elevate their standing.
Verdes, on the other hand, have been struggling recently, particularly after a 3-1 loss to Belmopan, and they need to bounce back.
In the other Saturday match, Progresso secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Belmopan. The final game of Week 7 will see Port Loyola taking on Wagiya on Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
