By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates slid past the much-improved Belmopan Bandits 1-0 in Week 7 of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro on Independence Day Eve, moving up to third place over Port Layola, at least temporarily.
San Pedro totaled 12 points, two ahead of Port, but the Belize City side can regain the third ranking should they beat Wagiya on Sunday in Dangriga in the final Week 7 match.
Delone ‘Dee Breezy’ Torres scored the only goal of the match in the 57th minute. That was Torres’ first goal for the Pirates since joining the San Pedro side at the beginning of the season after Altitude decided to take a one-year hiatus from the PLB.
The Bandits remain in sixth place with four points.
In the other Friday night match, Verdes booted Progresso 3-0 in Benque Viejo del Carmen, grabbing first place for themselves and dumping Progresso into second place.
The final Week 7 match, the Wagiya-Port Layola encounter, will be played on Sunday, September 22, at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga. The entrance fee will be $10.
