After weeks of uncertainty, the Premier League of Belize (PLB) suspended Week 10 fixture between Wagiya SC and Belmopan FC will be played Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm at Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga.
Originally set for Sunday, October 12, the match was postponed after Belmopan FC refused to play, citing disagreement with a date change approved by the PLB Organizing Committee. Wagiya had requested the shift to Saturday, November 11 to avoid clashing with the Belize Men’s National Team’s planned friendly against Venezuela—a match that was later cancelled due to security concerns in Chicago.
Despite the league’s ruling, Belmopan FC refused to travel, prompting the PLB to refer the matter to its Disciplinary Committee. Wagiya, having already secured logistics and matchday arrangements, had expected to be awarded the three points. On October 31, the club voiced its frustration on social media, highlighting what it saw as a double standard in enforcement.
Playoff Implications
Today’s match is pivotal. Belmopan FC currently sit fourth with 14 points and a game in hand, while Wagiya trail by just three points with two matches remaining. A win for either side could dramatically alter the standings heading into the final weekend of the 2025–2026 Opening Championship.
With the final playoff spot still up for grabs, all eyes turn to Carl Ramos Stadium this afternoon, where the outcome could reshape the postseason landscape.
