By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso maintained their lead in the Premier League of Belize at the end of the first round of the 2024-2025 Opening Championship, though Port Layola are creeping up on them.
Currently, with 13 points from 5 matches, Progresso have four wins, one draw, and no losses, boasting a goal difference of +6.
Port Layola follow in second place with 10 points, having displaced Verdes with their 3-2 win over the Green Machine.
Verdes FC dropped from second to third with 9 points.
San Pedro Pirates find themselves in the middle of the table with six points.
Bandits, who leapfrogged Wagiya with their 2-1 win over the southern club, now have three points and are in fifth place.
Wagiya round out the standings with just one point from five matches.
Due to the Belize Men’s National Team’s Concacaf League C matches against Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday, September 7, and Anguilla on Tuesday, September 10, at Turks and Caicos Islands, Week 6 of the Premier League will be delayed by a week.
When action resumes, these will be the Week 6 games:
- Saturday, September 14, 2024
- 7:00 pm: San Pedro Pirates vs. Port Layola FC at Ambergris Stadium
- 7:30 pm: Bandits Sports vs. Progresso FC at Isidoro Beaton Stadium
- Sunday, September 15th, 2024
- 4:00 pm: Wagiya SC vs. Verdes FC at Carl Ramos Stadium
