By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC played a superb match at the People’s Stadium on Sunday, handing previously unbeaten Napoles FC their first loss of the Premier League of Belize 2025-2026 Opening Championship with a 3–0 shutout. The result propels Progresso to the top of the PLB standings with eight points—one ahead of both Napoles and Belmopan FC.
The highly anticipated clash between the top two sides lived up to its billing, at least for the home fans. Progresso, fresh off a 5–1 rout of Capital Sport Club last weekend, showed no signs of slowing down. Their attacking trio—Latrell Middleton, Keydenshaay Bowen, and Rene Leslie—once again proved decisive.
Middleton opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing a well-placed effort that gave Progresso early control. The hosts maintained their momentum through the first half, pressing Napoles high and denying them space to build from the back. At halftime, Progresso led 1–0.
Napoles, who entered the match atop the table with seven points, struggled to find rhythm. Their attacking efforts were stifled by a disciplined Progresso backline and a midfield that won key duels throughout.

Progresso doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Bowen slotted past the Napoles keeper. Just ten minutes later, Leslie made it three, finishing a sweeping move that left the visitors reeling.
With the win, Progresso now lead the PLB with eight points from four matches (two wins, two draws). Belmopan FC, who defeated Capital Sport Club 3–0 on Saturday, sit second with seven points (two wins, one draw). Napoles drop to third, also on seven points, but with an inferior goal difference and one loss.
Sunday’s result marks a turning point in the early PLB season. Napoles, the surprise package from Belmopan, had hoped to extend their unbeaten run and solidify their lead. Instead, they’ll need to regroup quickly ahead of Week 5.
Progresso’s rise has been fueled by smart acquisitions and clinical finishing. Middleton, Bowen, and Leslie—each signed in the offseason—have now scored all eight of the club’s goals over the last two matches.

The People’s Stadium crowd left buzzing, not just with the win, but with the belief that Progresso may be building something special this season.
