By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC opened their 2025–2026 PLB Closing Championship campaign in dominant fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating Capital Sport Club (Benque United FC) 3–0 at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk.
The home side wasted no time asserting control. Walter Gomez (#11) struck in the 11th minute, finishing a well‑constructed attack to give Progresso an early 1–0 lead. The momentum continued just nine minutes later when Rene Leslie (#77) doubled the advantage in the 20th minute, putting the visitors under immediate pressure.
Progresso maintained their intensity into the second half, and Keydenshaay Bowen (#9) sealed the victory with a composed finish in the 50th minute, pushing the score to 3–0 and effectively closing the contest.
Capital Sport Club struggled to break through Progresso’s defensive structure and were limited to half‑chances throughout the match. The result marks a strong start for last season’s finalists, who are once again signaling their intent to challenge deep into the tournament.
Progresso return to action next weekend against Port Layola while Capital Sport Club take on Napoles FC
