By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC are through to the Premier League of Belize (PLB) Final after defeating Port Layola 2–1 in the second leg at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City on Thursday night. The result gave Progresso a 4–2 aggregate victory over the Belize City side.
Port Layola struck first when Colombian Juan Luquez (#90) scored in the 13th minute. Progresso responded quickly as Rene Leslie (#77) converted a penalty in the 16th minute to level the score. With the game heading for a draw, Latrell Middleton (#7) sealed the series for Progresso with a stoppage‑time goal in the 90+4 minute, securing a 2–1 win on the night.

Progresso had stunned Port Layola in the opener with a 2–1 victory. Latrell Middleton (37’) opened the scoring, Port Layola equalized through Gilroy “Leng” Thurton (52’), but Rene Leslie (80’ pen) sealed the win with a late penalty.
– First Leg: Progresso 2–1 Port Layola
– Second Leg: Progresso 2–1 Port Layola
– Aggregate: Progresso win 4–2
With the victory, Progresso FC advance to their first PLB Final, where they will face defending champions Verdes FC. The Final’s first leg will be played at 3:30 pm on Sunday, December 7, at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk.
