By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sunday’s PLB Closing Championship match between Port Layola FC and Wagiya SC was postponed after officials deemed the pitch at the Marion Jones Sports Complex unplayable due to heavy rainfall.

Persistent showers throughout the weekend left large sections of the field waterlogged, preventing safe play and forcing match officials to call off the fixture before kickoff. The decision was made in consultation with both clubs, the match commissioner, and stadium personnel.

The postponement delays Port Layola’s debut in the new season and extends Wagiya’s wait to take the field after a challenging Opening Championship. A new date for the match will be announced by the Premier League of Belize once scheduling adjustments are finalized.

Despite the cancellation in Belize City, the PLB Opening Weekend continued with matches in Belmopan and Orange Walk, including Napoles FC’s 2–1 win over Belmopan FC and Progresso FC’s 3–0 victory over Capital Sport Club
