By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize’s 2025–2026 Opening Championship has reached its tenth week, with the standings beginning to take shape despite two sides—Belmopan and Wagiya—yet to fulfil their weekend fixture. Verdes remain top of the table, having sat out Week 10, while Port Layola and Progresso made strong statements to keep the pressure on the leaders.

🔝 Verdes Stay Top Despite Rest Weekend

Verdes have maintained their unbeaten run, having collected 20 points from eight matches. Their six victories and two draws leave them five points clear at the summit, with a game in hand and a commanding +17 goal difference. Their consistency has been unmatched thus far.

⚓ Port Layola Cruise Past Napoles

Port Layola remain in second place following a convincing 4–1 win over Napoles. The result sees them move to 15 points from nine outings, with four wins and three draws. Their attacking flair continues to serve them well, and they remain firmly in the hunt.

⚡ Progresso Punish Capital Sports Club

Progresso have joined the chasing pack after dismantling Capital Sports Club—who are competing under the Benque Viejo United franchise—by four goals to nil. With 14 points and a +7 goal difference, Progresso now sit third, just one point behind Port Layola.

📉 Capital Sports Club Woes Deepen

Capital Sports Club (Benque Viejo United) remain rooted to the foot of the table, having suffered their seventh defeat in eight matches. Their solitary point and -28 goal difference reflect a campaign that has yet to find any momentum.

⏳ Belmopan and Wagiya Await Crucial Clash

Belmopan and Wagiya are due to meet in their Week 10 fixture, which could have significant implications for the mid-table. Wagiya currently occupy fourth place with 11 points from eight matches, while Belmopan sit fifth on 10 points from seven. Both sides will be eager to close the gap on the top three.

📉 Napoles Slip Further

Napoles have dropped to sixth following their defeat to Port Layola. With three wins and one draw from nine matches, they remain on 10 points but trail Belmopan on goal difference.

With the top three beginning to pull away, and the mid-table still tightly packed, the PLB Opening Championship promises further drama as the second half of the season unfolds.
