By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Season continues on Sunday, August 3, when Port Layola FC take to the pitch against Progresso FC at 4:00 pm at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
Port Layola, last year’s Opening Season champions, begin their new campaign with ambition and cohesion, aiming to push deep into post-season play. Their squad retains key contributors from their title run, balanced with new signings and tactical sharpness.
Progresso arrive determined to shake up the standings early. With a reputation for spirited football and high-energy pressing, the visitors are poised to test Port Layola on their home turf.
Sunday’s contest is one of two on Opening Weekend. The other match, played on Saturday, August 2, features Verdes FC hosting Capital Sport Club, competing under the Benque Viejo United FC franchise, at 7:30 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen. That game pits the Closing Season champions against the league’s newest entrant and is expected to draw strong regional interest.
Midweek action continues on Wednesday, August 6, as Napoles FC debut against Wagiya SC at 7:30 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Meanwhile, Belmopan FC will not take the field until Saturday, August 9, when they host Progresso at the same venue.
With seven clubs in the PLB, one team is inactive each week—this weekend, Belmopan waits for their turn.
