By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola displayed their dominance in the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship with a resounding 3-0 victory over Wagiya at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City on Sunday. This impressive win marks the end of Week 7 and solidifies Port Layola’s position at the top of the league standings.
The match saw Port Layola’s Andres Orozco opening the scoring in the 49th minute, followed by Shawn Young’s goal in the 64th minute. Latrell Middleton sealed the victory with a penalty kick in the 90th minute, leaving Wagiya reeling.
With this win, Port Layola now boast 19 points from 7 games, extending their lead to 6 points over second-place Progresso and 7 points over Verdes, who only managed a 2-2 draw against San Pedro and dropped to third place. The back-to-back champions are clearly in the driver’s seat as they continue their quest for another title.
Port Layola’s consistent performance and strong teamwork have made them the team to beat this season. They now prepare for their next match, confident in their ability to maintain their winning streak and secure the championship once again.
