By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With one weekend left in the regular season, the four playoff-bound clubs in the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship are confirmed: Verdes, Port Layola, Progresso, and Belmopan FC. But while qualification is settled, the final rankings—and semifinal matchups—are still in play for Progresso and Belmopan.

Under the league’s home-and-away semifinal format, 1st place faces 4th, and 2nd meets 3rd. As it stands:

  • Verdes FC (1st, 27 pts, +22 GD) would face Belmopan FC (4th, 17 pts, +11 GD)
  • Port Layola (2nd, 21 pts, +16 GD) would face Progresso (3rd, 20 pts, +15 GD)

However, Belmopan still have a mathematical path to third place. If they defeat Napoles FC on Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm at Isidoro Beaton Stadium, and win by five or more goals, they would tie Progresso on points (20) and surpass them on goal difference—leapfrogging into third. At this point, with Progresso having completed all 12 of their regular season matches, their third-place standing hangs in the balance—entirely dependent on whether Belmopan FC can deliver a five-goal victory against Napoles.

That shift would flip the semifinal pairings:

  • Verdes FC vs. Progresso
  • Port Layola vs. Belmopan FC

Given Verdes’ unbeaten record and defensive dominance, Belmopan may well prefer a semifinal against Port Layola, whose attacking style could offer more tactical openings. But the challenge is steep: Napoles are no pushovers, and a five-goal margin is a tall order.

Still, with playoff seeding and strategic matchups on the line, expect Belmopan to come out firing. Saturday’s fixture may not change who qualifies—but it could dramatically alter the playoff picture.

Week 12 Fixtures Recap:

  • Napoles FC vs. Belmopan FC – Saturday, 7:30 pm, Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Belmopan
  • Benque Viejo United vs. Wagiya – Saturday, 7:30 pm, FFB Stadium, Belmopan
  • Port Layola vs. Verdes FC – Saturday, 7:30 pm, Edmund Marshalleck Stadium, Benque Viejo del Carmen
