By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC strengthened their impressive start to the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Closing Championship with a 2–0 victory over Wagiya SC on Sunday afternoon at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, moving to 10 points from three wins and a draw.
The first half remained competitive, but Progresso produced the decisive moment before the interval. Wagiya earned a penalty, but goalkeeper Luisito Cunil denied Jonard Castillo, diving sharply to his right and punching the ball away to keep the match level. The sides went into halftime 0–0, with Cunil’s intervention proving crucial.
Progresso broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, when #2 Latrell Middleton fired the visitors ahead. Middleton, last championship’s top goalscorer, was making only his second appearance of the season after serving a two‑match suspension. He struck again in the 73rd minute, completing a composed brace and placing Progresso firmly in control.

Wagiya attempted to respond late on, but Progresso managed the match with discipline, maintaining their defensive structure and securing the clean sheet.
The defeat leaves hapless Wagiya still searching for their first point of the campaign. They have now lost four consecutive matches, unable to convert their effort into results.
Progresso, meanwhile, remain second in the standings, keeping steady pressure on leaders Verdes.
