By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Championship is heating up, and back-to-back champions Port Layola are showing no signs of slowing down. After seven weeks of intense competition, Port Layola sit comfortably atop the standings with an impressive 19 points.
The team’s dominance is evident in their record: six wins, one draw, and zero losses. Their attacking prowess has been on full display, netting 20 goals while only conceding 5, resulting in a remarkable goal difference of +15.
Following closely behind is Progresso FC, holding onto second place with 13 points. Progresso have shown consistency with four wins, one draw, and two losses, scoring 16 goals.
Verdes FC are also in contention, sitting third with 12 points, boasting three wins, three draws, and only one loss.
San Pedro and Belmopan FC occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. San Pedro have accumulated eight points, while Belmopan FC struggles with only four points. Wagiya find themselves at the bottom of the table with just two points.
The PLB Closing Season is proving to be an exciting one, with Port Layola setting a high standard for the rest of the league. As the regular season winds down it’s left to be seen whether any team can challenge Port Layola’s stronghold or if they will continue their reign as champions.
