Premier League of Belize: Champions Altitude beat Subchampions Port Layola 3-2 in 2023-24 Closing Championship kickoff

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Champions Altitude edged Subchampions Port Layola 3-2 in the kickoff of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2023-24 Closing Championship at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Andrés Orozco opened the hostilities, hammering a right-foot shot to the upper right-hand V leaving no chance to goalkeeper Charles Tillett in the 12^th minute.

In the 28^th minute, Rene Leslie hit the second goal with a shot from outside the semicircle, beating Tillett the same way Orozco had done earlier.

Port Layola rallied back and tied the match on goals by Latrelle Middleton in the 30^th minute and Orlando Velasquez in the 36^th.

The match remained deadlocked until the 79^th minute, when Ashton Torres, who had entered as a substitute, headed the ball in off a corner kick to seal the 3-2 victory for Altitude.

In the other three matches, Benque Viejo United shocked Progresso FC 1-0 at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk, Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque) got past Wagiya 1-0 at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen, and Verdes routed Bandits 3-0 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
