Belmopan FC asserted their dominance over the Belmopan football territory, blanking high-flying Napoles FC 2–0 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in a capital derby that reshapes the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship standings.
Dawoda Karama broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot home the opener. Norman Anderson doubled the lead in the 68th, finishing a well-worked counterattack that left Napoles scrambling.
Napoles, who entered Week 7 in second place with 10 points and a +6 goal difference, struggled to find rhythm against Belmopan’s compact midfield and resolute backline. The loss dents their title chase and hands Belmopan a crucial boost in the race for playoff positioning.
The match also marked a new chapter for Belmopan FC, now under the guidance of head coach Dale Pelayo, who took over from Charlie Slusher following his move to Progresso FC. Pelayo’s tactical discipline and familiarity with the local football landscape are already making an impact.
With the win, Belmopan FC climb to 10 points, matching Napoles and nudging them out of second place on goal difference (+6 vs +4). The result also reignites Belmopan FC’s campaign with renewed confidence.
