By Horace Palacio: Residents of Orange Walk and parts of Corozal should expect a power outage on Sunday, March 2, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, as Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) performs maintenance at the Orange Walk Substation.
The planned power cut will affect all zones of Orange Walk, as well as Buena Vista and Caledonia in Corozal. BEL has announced that the works will include replacing faulty electrical components, relocating high-voltage lines, and removing hazardous vegetation near power infrastructure. The goal is to ensure a more stable and efficient power supply for the affected areas.
In addition to the major outage on Sunday, BEL has also scheduled brief power interruptions lasting five minutes each, which will take place from March 3rd to March 6th at 7:00 AM and again at 5:55 PM. These will affect the entire Orange Walk District, including Buena Vista and Caledonia in Corozal, as technicians continue upgrades throughout the week.
BEL encourages all residents and businesses to prepare accordingly and thanks the public for their patience. The company reassures customers that these maintenance works are necessary to improve the power grid and reduce the risk of unexpected outages in the future.
