By Aaron Humes: In a public notice, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) announced that a section of the Corozal-Sarteneja Road is encountering serious issues related to unprecedented settlement and flooding. The affected area is located near the south approach to the Pueblo Nuevo Bridge, where approximately 200 meters (650 feet) of the roadway has been compromised.

Officials have indicated that the situation may have been exacerbated by tidal flows from the nearby lagoon, leading to concerns about the safety and accessibility of this vital transportation route. In response to these challenges, the MIDH is currently working to fill in lower areas along the road to ensure it remains passable for vehicular traffic.

To enhance safety, the narrowed section of the road will be clearly marked to guide drivers, but the ministry is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while navigating through the area. Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed and remain vigilant for warning signs and markers.

In case of further flooding, drivers will be asked not to try to pass through the area, and the MIDH may be forced to close this portion of the road and redirect traffic through San Estevan village in Orange Walk.
