By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize’s 2024-2025 Closing Championship kicked off with a bang last weekend, and Port Layola’s Latrell Middleton emerged as the top goalscorer after the first set of matches. Middleton’s impressive performance saw him net a hat trick (three goals), leading his team to a dominant 6-2 victory over Belmopan FC.
In the match held on Sunday, January 19, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City, Middleton scored in the 60th minute (penalty), 62nd minute, and 90’+1 minute, helping the defending champions secure a commanding win.
Other notable performers included Middleton’s teammate, Colombian Andrés Orozco, who scored a brace, Mexican Bryan Mauricio Lozano of Verdes, who converted twice in the Green Machine’s 4-1 victory over Progresso, and Jaheim Mena of San Pedro Pirates, who also netted a brace in the islanders 4-1 win against Wagiya.
