Port Layola FC expresses gratitude for Central American Cup Experience

Port Layola FC have published a heartfelt thank you letter to the CONCACAF Central American Cup Executive Body, supporters, fans, players, and staff, reflecting on their journey towards the international tournament.

“This tournament has been more than just a series of matches; it has been an experience that has profoundly impacted our players, staff, and everyone associated with our team,” the Port Layola letter states.

Challenges and Learning Experiences

Participating in the Central American Cup for the first time, Port Layola faced several challenges, including the departure of Coach Charlie Slusher, who left to take the reins of the Belize Men’s National Team after their first game against Guatemala’s Antigua on July 30. Despite these hurdles, the team views the tournament as a valuable learning experience.

“The opportunities provided by this tournament have allowed our players to grow, learn, and compete at a level that has undoubtedly enhanced their skills and experience,” Port Layola said.

After winning the right to represent the Premier League of Belize, edging Altitude on cumulative points, Port Layola’s journey in the Central American Cup included four matches: a 4-1 loss to Guatemala’s Antigua GFC on July 30, a 6-1 defeat by Honduras’ CD Olimpia on August 10, a 5-1 loss to El Salvador’s CD Águila on August 14, and a narrow 1-0 defeat to Panama’s CA Independiente on August 21 after a 40-minute thunderstorm delay.

Acknowledging Support and Financial Contributions

Port Layola FC extended their gratitude to CONCACAF for organizing the tournament and providing financial support.

“We are also immensely grateful for the financial support that made our participation possible,” the letter reads.

“Your commitment to the sport and to creating a platform where teams like ours could showcase their talents on an international stage has not gone unnoticed.

“Your contributions have ensured that we focus on the game without the burden of financial constraints. From travel and accommodation to training facilities, your generosity has played a pivotal role in our journey. We cannot thank you enough for your unwavering support and belief in our team.”

Thanks to Fans and Supporters

The club also thanked their fans and supporters for their unwavering support.

“To our beloved fans and supporters, words cannot fully capture our appreciation for your incredible energy, enthusiasm, and loyalty,” Port Layola said, thanking them for the entire journey which started last year during the 2023-2024 Premier League of Belize Season.

“You stood by us through every victory and challenge, cheering us from the stands and from afar. Your passion has been the lifeblood of our team, inspiring us to give our all on the field. The chants, the banners, and the unwavering support have made every moment of this journey unforgettable. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing community of fans who believe in us as much as we believe in ourselves.”

Appreciation for Players and Staff

Port Layola acknowledged the hard work and dedication of their players and staff.

“To our players and staff, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and the countless hours you’ve invested in training, strategizing, and executing on the field,” Port Layola said.

“This experience has been a testament to your resilience and commitment to excellence. The growth we have witnessed in each one of you is something to be immensely proud of.”

Aspirations for the PLB 2024-2025 Season

Looking ahead, Port Layola is determined to win the PLB 2024-2025 Season and qualify again to represent Belize in the Central American Cup next year.

“We look forward to future opportunities to build upon this experience,” Port Layola said, as they are now determined to do it all over again, albeit with a much better performance.

“In closing, we wish to express that this journey has been nothing short of remarkable, thanks to each and every one of you. The memories we have created together will remain with us forever.”

Port Layola are now poised to defend their national title and aim for greater success on the international stage next time around. However, this goal isn’t going to be an easy task, with strong competition from Verdes, Progresso, and San Pedro Pirates breathing down their necks.
