By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Premier League of Belize champions Port Layola will play a friendly match against Guatemala’s second division club, CSD Sayaxché, in preparation for their participation in the Concacaf Central American Cup.
The match against the Petén club is set for 4:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Initially, Port were to play San Benito FC but, due to a negotiation mix-up, that club ended agreeing with Verdes and Port got another rival, Club Social y Deportivo (CSD) Sayaxché from the Guatemala Second Division League.
Guatemala’s Second Division League is the third tier league in Guatemala under the Guatemala National Football League and the Guatemala First Division League. San Benito are in the second tier Guatemala First Division League. The top tier Guatemala National Football League comprises clubs like Municipal and Comunicaciones.
Both teams will play a return match on Sunday, July 19, at the Estadio La Pasión in Sayaxché, which is 38 miles south of Flores, Petén.
Port said tickets for their Concacaf central American match against Guatemala Antigua GFC will be on sale at the game. Port will be playing their first Central American Cup match against Antigua on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the FFB Stadium. After that, Port took on a more powerful opponent, Central American powerhouse Olimpia of Honduras, at the FFB Stadium at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 8 at the FFB Stadium, as well.
Following these home matches, Port will play their next two games away.
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Port will face El Salvador Aguila at Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, at 4:00 pm. Their final game will be against CA Independiente at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Tickets for Port’s opening match against Antigua are available at two locations: the PLB Office at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan and the Belize District Football Association Office at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City. Tickets are priced at $25.00 but will sell for $30.00 on game day.
