By Zoila Palma: The third day of the Belize Police Youth Cadet Corps National Summer Camp, held on Wednesday, July 29, offered cadets a mix of education, cultural exploration and fellowship as they visited several institutions in the Stann Creek District. Based at Ecumenical High School, the camp provides young participants with opportunities to learn about Belize’s industries and agricultural traditions.
The day began with educational visits to four key sites, including Marie Sharp’s and Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL). At both facilities, cadets attended presentations highlighting the production processes behind some of Belize’s well-known products, giving them insight into the country’s manufacturing and export industries.
The cadets then visited Sabal’s Cassava Production, where they received a guided tour of the cassava production process. They learned how cassava is harvested and transformed into cassava bread and other finished products, gaining a greater appreciation for the work, skills and traditions behind one of Belize’s staple foods.
The final educational stop was the Butterfly Farm, where the cadets explored the life cycle of butterflies and observed the various stages of metamorphosis.
The guided tour provided an opportunity for the young participants to experience the farm’s operations and learn more about the fascinating natural process.
In addition, the cadets participated in a campfire allowing cadets to relax, share stories and socialize with their peers.
