Police seeking assistance from public to solve double murder/robbery of deliverymen on Hummingbird Highway

By Aaron Humes: Police continue to ask the public, and especially those in the area of Mile 40 on the Hummingbird Highway, to assist them with any footage or information to solve the murders of Raynord Raymond Garbutt, Jr., and Robert Alexander Crawford, who were shot and killed after being robbed sometime on Thursday afternoon into the evening.

On Monday, ASP Stacy Smith told reporters during a press briefing, “Whilst we have made some advancement in terms of the investigation, all I would like to add at this point is that the information that has been received [is] being meticulously reviewed and we urge persons to continue to come forward with information in relation to this investigation.”

Garbutt and Crawford, employed by Recinos’ Imports, lost touch with their colleagues after 3:30 in the afternoon as they tried to reach them. Police were informed and headed to the location, finding the truck parked on the left-hand side of the road when heading to Belmopan, engine off but keys in the ignition. Also, the cash pan containing sales proceeds was empty.

About a quarter mile from the truck on a feeder road, the bodies of Garbutt and Crawford were found with gunshot wounds to the head.

During a Zoom call on Friday, ASP Smith said several suggestions could be drawn from what an examination of the scene revealed as to whether anyone saw what happened and the exact sequence of events: “…[it] suggests that they were taken to that location and presumably under some form of duress. So that is what we are looking at. Also, interestingly, the vehicle was parked on the side of the road. So, something happened that may have caused the driver of the vehicle to believe that he was stopping for a legitimate purpose when, in fact, that was not the case.”
