Police say motorcyclist involved in Uno Gas Station crash was driving drunk and unlicensed

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A late-night traffic accident in Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk resulted in serious traffic violations for a motorcyclist after police responded to a report around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, near the Uno Gas Station on the Philip Goldson Highway.

Police arrived to find a woman lying on the left side of the highway, suffering from back pain, and a black Lifan motorcycle (OWM-2625) with a bent wheel and damaged fork. Officers also observed a silver Ford F-150 (OWC-20247) inside the gas station compound with a broken rear left light.

Initial investigations revealed that 33-year-old Roberto Gongora, a Belizean zone manager, was driving the Ford F-150 toward West San Martin Street and had signaled to turn left into the gas station. While already in the left lane, his vehicle was struck from behind by the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was driven by 29-year-old Juan Angel Candelario, who had his common-law wife, 22-year-old Mariana Crawford, as a passenger. Both were traveling in the same direction when the collision occurred.

Police reported that upon approaching the motorcyclist, they detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and noted that his speech was slurred. Candelario was informed of the offense of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When asked to produce a driver’s license, Candelario admitted he did not have one.

Further checks revealed the motorcycle had no insurance disc or license sticker, and Candelario had no proof of either. He was additionally informed of the offenses of:

Driving without a Belize driver’s license

Driving an unlicensed motor vehicle

Driving a vehicle not covered by third-party insurance

Candelario was escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station.
