Police report slight decline in major crimes at National COMPSTAT meeting

By Zoila Palma:  The Belize Police Department reported a modest decline in major crimes during its National COMPSTAT Meeting, where comparative crime and traffic statistics for 2024 and 2025 were reviewed.

According to police data, major crimes decreased by one percent, falling from 1,098 cases in 2024 to 1,086 cases in 2025.

Reductions were recorded in several categories, including murder, burglary, theft, and unlawful sexual intercourse.

However, the statistics also showed increases in rape and robbery during the same period, highlighting ongoing challenges for law enforcement.

Police further reported that, as of the current reporting period, 387 arrests have been made for major crimes in 2025.
