Police raid finds cannabis in electrician’s pocket and more drugs outside fence

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 35 year old Orange Walk Town electrician has been charged with possession of controlled drugs following a police raid on his home on Wednesday.

Hubert Edgar August of Rio Grande Street was charged after police allegedly found 16.1 grams of suspected cannabis in his pocket.

According to police, around 11:00am on Wednesday, November 4, officers from the Trial Farm Sub Station and the San Roman Joint Patrol Team executed a search warrant at the residence. A woman who lives at the house was seated in the yard and was shown the warrant.

Inside, officers found August sitting on a couch in the living room. A search of his right pocket turned up six small plastic bags containing suspected cannabis. Nothing else illegal was found inside the house.

However, police say a search along the outside edge of the fence led to more discoveries. Under a cement block, officers found a plastic bag containing an off white substance suspected to be crack cocaine, weighing 12.2 grams. In a tied yellow bag lodged in trees about a foot above the fence, they found nine wrapped bags of suspected cannabis weighing 46.2 grams.

The drugs found outside the fence were recorded as found property.

August was formally charged the same day for the cannabis found in his pocket. He remained silent when cautioned.
