By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Belize Police Department has seized 116 firearms and 374 rounds of ammunition since the start of the year as part of an intensified nationwide effort to remove illegal weapons and drugs from the streets.
The latest figures were confirmed by Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith, who reported that countrywide anti-drug and anti-weapon operations conducted between May 25 and May 29, 2026, resulted in the seizure of ten additional firearms.
Those weapons included five 9mm pistols, one .22 caliber pistol, three .38 revolvers and one AR-15 rifle.
The week’s operations also led to a cocaine bust in the Kings Park area of Belize City. Eastern Division personnel arrested and charged Corey Ottley and Tricia Ottley of Vasquez Avenue, Kings Park, for possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply after officers discovered 144 grams of suspected cocaine during a search of their residence.
ASP Smith said the latest seizures reflect the cumulative impact of the department’s sustained enforcement efforts throughout 2026.
“This week’s seizure brings the total amount of weapons and ammunition seized by the department since the beginning of the year to 116 firearms of different calibers, 374 rounds of ammunition and the number of persons arrested for firearm and ammunition-related offenses to 109,” she stated.
Police say the operations remain ongoing across all districts. Members of the public are being urged to continue reporting illegal weapons and drug activity in their communities.
