By Aaron Humes: On Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado and ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Eastern Division, addressed the recent surge in violence that has left the community on edge. Tuesday morning’s murder of Kadeem Orosco is being investigated in connection with ongoing gang-related activity in the area.
Dr. Rosado explained that while the motive behind the murder is still under investigation, there is evidence suggesting that the victim had ties to a faction operating within the St Martin de Porres area. “Presently, we are still exploring several theories to establish the motive,” said Dr. Rosado. “Though [Orosco] might not have been an active member, the area in which he lived is associated with one of the affiliated groups.”
The Orosco murder is the third over the last 24 hours, prompting questions about a possible connection between the incidents. “I cannot say if it is connected; however, we have several leads we are following up on and multiple persons in custody in relation to these murders,” stated ACP Romero.
When pressed about whether these killings were part of a larger gang feud, Romero confirmed, “Yes, we have information that it is connected, which is why we currently have around sixty persons in custody. We are conducting several operations in the Belize district and continue our work on the ground.”
The police are also utilizing technology; the surveillance cameras, placed around the city and one of which was in the area where Orosco was shot dead, are aiding the investigation. “We have several cameras around the city, and when an incident occurs, we review the footage to gather information,” he stated in response to a reporter’s inquiry about the surveillance system’s effectiveness.
As police continue their investigations and operations, they urge anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations.
