By Aaron Humes: Police officer, 32-year-old Cady Darrel Garcia, has been released on bail after being arraigned on charges of harming his common-law wife. The officer appeared in Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against him.
Garcia was charged with intentionally causing harm to his common-law partner on February 15. During the court proceedings, the Senior Magistrate expressed serious concerns for the victim’s safety and inquired whether they were still living together, to which he said no.
Seeking clarity on the retrieval of his personal belongings from the home, Garcia requested an order to collect his items, including a television. The Senior Magistrate stated that he could retrieve his belongings only with police assistance and advised him to approach the Belize Family Court regarding the television.
The court set bail at $700, requiring Garcia to have one surety of the same amount. Conditions of his release include a prohibition on any contact with his common-law wife or witnesses linked to the case, as well as a restriction that he must maintain a distance of at least 25 feet from her.
Garcia’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 15.
