By Breaking Belize News Staff: A morning commute turned into a serious traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway today (Wednesday), involving a student and a member of the Belize Police Department.
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. between miles 65 and 66 near San Pablo Village. According to police reports, 18-year-old Einor Juaquin Arcurio, a student of Corozal Junior College, was driving a black Chevrolet Cruze toward Orange Walk when he pulled onto the right shoulder.
Arcurio reportedly attempted to make a U-turn to pick up a classmate but failed to see an oncoming motorcycle.
Traveling in the same direction was a Police Corporal on a black YINUO motorcycle. As the vehicle turned across the highway, the officer was unable to avoid the sudden obstruction and collided into the left side of the car.
The officer was transported by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Unit. He was conscious but reported injuries to his right knee, back pain, and multiple abrasions.
Arcurio, who holds a valid driver’s license, admitted fault at the scene and agreed to settle the matter through insurance. He has since been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) as investigations continue.
