By Breaking Belize News Staff: Aaron Mai, PUP Councilor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena, has issued a heartfelt appeal on social media, calling on Belizeans to unite in support of Police Constable Karen August, who remains in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) following a hit-and-run accident over the weekend.
On Saturday, September 6th, just after midnight, PC August and her colleague, PC Hamilton, were on a police motorcycle patrol along the Benque Viejo Road when they were struck and run off the road. PC Hamilton sustained injuries but was treated and released. PC August, however, suffered severe injuries and is now fighting for her life.
Known in Santa Elena, Cayo, and at the newly opened Kontiki Substation as a friendly and dedicated officer, PC August left her home that evening to serve and protect her community. Instead, she now lies in the hospital battling for survival after the senseless hit-and-run.
Friends, family, and colleagues are organizing a $1 drive and a BBQ sale this Friday to raise funds for her urgent medical care. Councilor Mai urged Belizeans to rally behind PC August, describing her as a young mother and committed officer who gave selflessly to safeguard others.
“Your contribution can make a difference in her fight for recovery,” Mai emphasized, as the call for donations gains momentum across Cayo and beyond.
