By Horace Palacio: PC Sheldon Arzu, a former convict-turned-police officer, is back behind bars after being charged with dangerous harm for shooting 24-year-old Emil Rivers during a tense police standoff.
Video footage of the incident, now viral, shows Rivers armed while three officers confront him, before Arzu fires a shot into his abdomen. Reports confirm that Arzu was denied bail and remanded to Hattieville Prison on Wednesday—the same facility where he served 13 years for manslaughter after killing a man in the Caye Caulker police station in 2005.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams stated that Arzu is now on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation, as public outrage grows over his reinstatement in the force.
