Police looking for killers of Roberto Villafranco following robbery turned murder

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a shooting incident in Orange Walk District that left one man dead, while another remains hospitalized. Initial investigations commenced on Tuesday, April 28, about 4:20 p.m., when police responded to a report of a robbery on Chan Pine Ridge Road, Orange Walk District.

Upon arrival, they met 25-year-old Felipe Vasquez, a Belizean laborer of Orange Walk Town, lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to his right shoulder. Vasquez reported that he and his co-worker, 42-year-old Roberto Villafranco, were making a delivery on Chan Pine Ridge Road when they were both shot. Police visited the scene and observed a small flatbed truck belonging to Zeta Purified Water Limited. Inside the truck, on the driver’s side, they observed Roberto Villafranco motionless with gunshot injuries to his body.

Initial investigations revealed that at about 4:00 p.m., Vasquez and Villafranco, employees of Zeta Water, were making deliveries on Chan Pine Ridge Road when a male person wearing a camouflage face mask waved at them with a five-gallon bottle in his hand. Villafranco stopped the truck, and Vasquez exited the vehicle to deliver the water. While doing so, he heard gunshots and began to run. While fleeing, he was also shot.

Vasquez was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. Villafranco was also transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
