Police link killing of PC Dylan Anthony to Daniel Lopez shooting – but cop was mistaken for someone else

By Aaron Humes: Nine-year veteran of the Belize Police Department Dylan Anthony, 29, was gunned down on the Roaring Creek Bridge late Saturday night, and while it is no comfort to his family or comrades, it appears he was not the intended target.

The killing has been linked to the Friday night shooting of Daniel Lopez at a gathering in Roaring Creek by shooters riding by.

As indicated by Officer Commanding Eastern Division Assistant Commissioner Hilberto Romero, “An investigation is being carried out into this report. We have several people in custody and are seeking other persons as well at this time. The intelligence we are gathering is that it is a case of mistaken identity. But the person that was on the bridge firing the shots, he targeted the police officer who was on that motorcycle.”

Those being sought are from the Another World area of Roaring Creek, including one person who was reportedly recently released from the Central Prison.

ACP Romero said it was a tragic event and repeated the Department’s condolences to the Anthony family and those who were close to him, including the young son he leaves behind.
