By Horace Palacio: A Saturday afternoon shooting outside T&J Supermarket in Belmopan left Jamal Hyde with a gunshot wound to the upper right leg, in what authorities believe may have been a retaliation attack.
Hyde was inside a black Mazda Tribute with four others around 12:15 p.m., reportedly heading to the river when they stopped to buy items. While two passengers entered the shop, a white, heavily tinted Suburban SUV pulled up and blocked the Mazda.
A male shooter in a long-sleeve shirt emerged from the SUV’s back passenger side and opened fire, reportedly discharging over 15 shots at the vehicle. Hyde was the only one injured and was rushed to Western Regional Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Surveillance footage from the area captured the moment passengers scrambled out of the vehicle to escape, a scene that’s now part of an active police investigation.
Authorities suspect the shooting may be connected to Ryan Hyde and his associates, who allegedly believe Jamal Hyde was involved in a previous shooting at Ryan’s residence.
