By Aaron Humes: Independent journalist Joseph Ryan Budna is alleged to have been kidnapped late Friday night in front of the Orange Walk Police Station, just after concluding a live broadcast.
According to reports, Budna was approached by a group of unidentified individuals who forcibly took him despite the efforts of bystanders attempting to intervene. Budna’s vehicle, along with his phone and personal belongings, were reportedly left behind and have since been secured by law enforcement.
Budna, known for his fearless advocacy and dedication to reporting on pressing community issues, is also facing several criminal charges and is wanted for a prison sentence in Guatemala.
As of Saturday morning, Police have only confirmed that they are looking into an incident involving an abandoned vehicle that was impounded near Hospital Crescent. A black 2010 GMC Acadia SUV, found around 9:00 p.m., is currently undergoing forensic processing, which could potentially link it to the alleged kidnapping.
Investigators are pursuing all leads and exploring any connections. The police emphasize that information can be provided anonymously to ensure the safety of those who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity.
Further updates from law enforcement are anticipated as they continue their probe.
