Police investigate murder of retiree in Orange Walk

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating the apparent murder of 70-year-old Francisco Perfecto Garcia, a retiree of Santa Martha Village, Orange Walk District.

On Monday, April 27, police received a report concerning a missing person on Santa Martha Road. Officers were directed to a small, unpainted cement house situated about half a mile from the main road. Upon arrival, they met 35-year-old Sergio Garcia, who led them to a nearby bushy area where he had discovered his father’s lifeless body.

Sergio Garcia had gone to check on his father after family members expressed concern when they could not reach him. When he arrived at the house, he found the back door ajar and the interior ransacked, raising immediate alarm. His search for his father ended when he found Francisco Garcia lying motionless in the bushes, covered only with a white and blue sheet.

Initial investigations revealed that Francisco had sustained multiple chop wounds to the face. A black-handled machete with suspected blood was found at the back of the property, along with other items believed to have been stolen from the house, including a red iPhone 11 and several gas tanks.

The body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead by Dr. Josemar Cantun later that evening. Police have canvassed the area for missing items and recorded statements from witnesses, yet no further details on potential suspects have been released.
