By Zoila Palma: The Belize Police Department (BPD) is investigating how more than $20,000 went missing from the CIB office of the BPD.
According to reports, the missing money is from a 2023 seizure.
7News Belize reports that following the audit, the Officer Commanding CIB was reportedly transferred.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer confirmed that the BPD was made aware following an audit.
“As it relates to that inquiry, I can confirm that as a part of the auditing that was done at the CIB, a discovery was made that some sums of money was unaccounted for and that is the matter of an ongoing investigation,” Smith said.
ASP Smith also added that members of the Professional Standards Branch are reviewing the matter.
“A number of statements have been recorded as the investigation continues,” Smith said.
