By Breaking Belize News Staff: Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday night, multiple shots rang out in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.
Upon making checks in the Hot Point area in Santa Elena, several persons denied that they had heard any shots.
However, a team of officers from the San Ignacio Police formation proceeded with an operation in the Hot Point Area.
There, police found 12 Aguila brand expended nine-millimeter shells in a plantain tree patch, located in the back area of a property on Santa Lucia Street.
The expended shells were found packed in a small plastic bag.
Police also found several items including bicycles, ladders and others believed to be stolen items exchanged for drugs.
The items were confiscated from within the houses and property.
Police detained all known drug peddlers at the property.
One of the detainees explained to police that on Thursday night, he was inside his home with his common-law wife when they heard an argument outside.
His common-law wife exited the house and got involved in the argument.
When he came outside, he noticed his sister in law and another friend beating up two men and demanding a phone.
The detainee says he recognized the man because he had bought a phone for $40 from the person.
His common-law wife reportedly handed the phone over to the sister in law.
But shortly after, the companion of his sister in law approached them and pointed a nine-millimeter firearm at them.
The man fired a single shot toward them and left.
About half an hour after, they were inside the yard when they heard several shots from inside the yard but couldn’t see anyone.
Police investigations continue.
