By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have detained one suspect in connection with Thursday evening’s murder of 17-year-old Kaylon David, who was shot while walking along Iguana Street Extension in Belize City.
David was attacked shortly after 6:30 p.m. when a gunman approached him and fired several shots in his direction. The teenager was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police confirmed during Friday’s press briefing that investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and have one person in custody. According to police, preliminary investigations suggest the shooting may have stemmed from an ongoing rivalry involving threats exchanged between David and other individuals.
Investigators also indicated that David was not previously known to police.
Earlier reports identified David as a resident of Iguana Street Extension and indicated that he sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. A 9mm expended shell casing was reportedly recovered from the scene.
Police continue their investigation.
