By Horace Palacio: Police Commissioner Chester Williams has stated that the murder of 56-year-old American real estate developer Boris Alexander Mannsfeld bears the hallmarks of a targeted hit.
Speaking to reporters, Williams noted that Mannsfeld had returned to Belize on the same day he was shot dead and had been traveling in and out of the country since the death of his associate, Ricardo Borja. “It has all indications of a hit,” Williams said, while adding that the motive remains unclear.
Police are now focusing their investigation on Mannsfeld’s business dealings. “We are looking at the business transactions that Mr. Mannsfeld may have with other individuals, with our view to see if we will be able to close in on a possible motive and perhaps suspect,” Williams explained.
When asked whether Mannsfeld’s murder could be linked to the deaths of his associates, Borja and Darren Taylor, Williams acknowledged the possibility. “It will not be wrong for one to assume that there may be some connection there, and we’re looking at that possibility,” he stated.
Mannsfeld, who was involved in several civil legal disputes, including allegations of questionable business practices, was shot in the back of the neck—a detail that has strengthened suspicions of a professional hit.
Williams also confirmed that a man identified as Frik De Meyere is currently in custody as a suspect in the case. “He’s a suspect, and again, let me make it clear that Frik, or whatever his name is, is the person of interest who is in police custody at this time, and he’s just a suspect in this matter,” Williams stated, emphasizing that no charges have been filed yet.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue to explore potential connections between Mannsfeld’s murder and the broader network of legal and business disputes he was involved in before his death.
