By Aaron Humes: Police have formally arrested and charged 33-year-old Ellis Gilbert Meighan, a Belizean car dealer of Belize City, for the crimes of murder, attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm.
Meighan is accused of the murder of Roy Lee Burgess along the Placencia Road in April of 2024; attempted murder of Maia James, his companion; and other charges.
Meighan was on the run for several months but was captured by U.S. authorities and interned in San Diego, California until he was sent back to Belize on Tuesday.
Meighan has previously faced several charges including being a member of a gang.
