By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño says he fully supports the creation of a public sex offenders registry in Belize, describing it as a necessary step to better protect children and communities.
The issue has gained national attention following a growing number of reported sexual offences involving minors across the country. Public calls for greater transparency and accountability have intensified in recent weeks, especially in cases involving individuals in positions of trust and authority.
Speaking on the matter, Briceño said discussions were already brought before Cabinet and received immediate support. He acknowledged that while certain reporting procedures and legal safeguards would still need to be worked out, government believes the registry is necessary.
The Prime Minister also credited the Attorney General and the Special Envoy’s office for pushing the issue forward.
