By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville man is behind bars after being sentenced to one month imprisonment for harming his aunt during a family dispute over household items.
Thirty-year-old Lionel Nigel Logan, a resident of Perez Road, Ladyville, appeared late Monday before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1, where he was charged with a single count of harm. Logan pleaded guilty with an explanation.
The court heard that the incident occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, and involved Logan’s aunt, a 43-year-old babysitter. According to the prosecution’s facts, the aunt reported to the Ladyville Police Station on Saturday, January 26, 2026, that she had been assaulted by her nephew with a fan.
In her report to police, the aunt stated that around 7:50 p.m., Logan unplugged a white Lasko fan during an argument, threatened to damage household items, and later struck her on the left arm with the fan. The blow reportedly caused her to hit her back against a door frame, resulting in pain to her lower back. Police were subsequently called, and Logan was arrested and charged.
In court, Logan claimed the dispute arose after his aunt asked him to move out of her home. He said he was attempting to remove items he believed belonged to him, including a television, refrigerator, and fan, which he claimed were given to him by his mother. Despite maintaining that he never intentionally harmed his aunt, Logan upheld his guilty plea.
The Chief Magistrate accepted the plea and sentenced Logan to one month imprisonment for harm. Court records revealed that this conviction marks Logan’s seventh, including two convictions within the last six months. He also has outstanding default sentences for possession of a pipe and traffic offenses.
The court ordered that the one-month sentence for harm run consecutively with his other default sentences, bringing his total time to be served to three months and two weeks imprisonment.
