By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize will release the official schedule for the 2025–2026 Closing Championship on January 9, just over a week before the tournament kicks off on the weekend of January 17 and 18. The first match or matches will be played on Saturday the 17th, with the remaining fixtures set for Sunday.
All seven clubs are expected to participate this season: Verdes FC, Progresso FC, Port Layola FC, Belmopan FC, Napoles FC, Wagiya SC, and Capital Sport Club (Benque United).
Verdes FC enter the new championship as the defending titleholders after edging Progresso FC 1–0 on aggregate in the previous season’s final. The first leg in Orange Walk ended 0–0, but the decisive second leg at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque delivered the breakthrough they needed to secure back‑to‑back titles.
Capital Sport Club returns despite a difficult 2024–2025 campaign in which they scored six goals and conceded 63 for a –57 goal differential, averaging 5.25 goals allowed per game over the 12‑match regular season.
With the schedule set to be unveiled and the opening weekend approaching, anticipation is building across the country as teams finalize their preparations for another competitive PLB campaign.
