By Aaron Humes: The Placencia Police today received a donation of 50 high-quality rechargeable LED flashlights from a resident of the Placencia Peninsula community.
This evening, Officer Commanding Superintendent Nazario Tzib told Breaking Belize News that the flashlights will be used to assist nighttime operations along the Peninsula, which has three police outposts: Placencia, Seine Bight and Maya Beach. The flashlights will be shared among these outposts.
The donation comes from Amanda Hyatt Haley, manager of a yacht club in Placencia and originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A few months ago, she spoke with a Belizean police officer who suggested that flashlights similar to those used in American police jurisdictions would help their crime-fighting efforts.
Haley, who regularly donates to community needs in Seine Bight and Placencia, contacted Joseph Cain, the founder of the Cain Service Corporation of Fort Lauderdale, a world-leading engineering and construction company, and also interested in civic engagement and community development. He agreed to help and purchased the flashlights at a reasonable price.
As supporters of law enforcement and the greater Placencia area, Haley and Cain were committed to making these flashlights available to the Department as soon as possible and did so today.
